Unboxing Blackwing Pencils Volume 343: A Nostalgic Experience

Hello everyone,

For Christmas last year I treated myself to an unusual subscription: a quarterly box of pencils. I love Blackwing pencils and I find their themes usually resonate with me. I hesitated with the subscription because their quarterly boxes come from the USA, and the postage is steep. But in the end I thought I would try it for a year and see if it’s worth it…
The first one wasn’t a surprise because it was the one I subscribed with. I already knew what was going to come in the post.
However, when the second one arrived last week, I had no idea what I would find in the box. And as it happens, it was something meaningful to me and I was both surprised and delighted with what I discovered.

When I was little, there was no daytime television, apart from Wednesday afternoons when kids were off school. Because my brothers and sister were much older than me, I was always playing on my own until I started school and made friends. And although there were no programmes on the tv, there was this colourful thing I used to call “the target”, because to me that’s what it looked like. I used to be mesmerised by all the colours. I would sit in front of the screen for hours trying to draw it with my coloured pencils. The target (and my rabbits) were my companions for years…
Now I have pencils with the target on them, which makes me very happy.

Here is the video I made of the unboxing and showing what’s in the box:

Subscribing to that box was actually a very good idea and I’m really glad I did. I can’t wait to see what the Blackwing people will come up with next!

If you would like to try some Blackwing pencils, you can find them on the Jackson’s Art Supplies website by clicking here.

Happy drawing!
Sandrine
