It has been a long journey and it took a long time to get here, but here we are, my new book is finished and has gone to press…
It is called Botanical Watercolours through the Seasons and is published by Search Press. It will take you from early Spring to the end of Winter through a series of tutorials of various types of subjects (flowers, fruit, foliage…) at different levels of skills. So whether you are a complete beginner or whether you have more experience, you should find something to suit your level and your mood. For each tutorial I also added a double page of botany, partly because I am always curious about what I paint but also because I think it is easier to paint something if you understand it better.
Tom Brown, head gardener at West Dean Gardens, writer and broadcaster, wrote the foreword. Tom planted and looked after quite a few of the subjects I painted in the book, including the tulip ‘Queen of Night’ featured on the cover. West Dean Gardens and College are a constant inspiration to me and I love teaching there. It feels right to have them so present in the book.
My editor Beth has done an amazing job… She has not only worked hard to make the book look beautiful but has also been a soothing influence on me, always patient and always chilled when I felt overwhelmed and panic was threatening to engulf me. Thank you Beth 🙂
The book will come out in July but is already available to pre-order on Amazon worldwide.
When it comes out I will have some signed copies in my Etsy shop and I am also organising some signing events, including Hampshire Artists Open Studios, where I will exhibit the tutorial paintings. This will probably be the only time they will all be seen together.
I hope you will enjoy this painting journey through the changing seasons…
