Panart 1102 and 1122 watercolour brushes – Test and review

Hello,

Who doesn’t like a new paintbrush? Especially when it looks this good…
The Panart 1102 (round brush) and 1122 (flat brush) watercolour brushes are probably the most handsome brushes I have ever seen… but does their performance match their good looks?

I tested the brushes on a real painting, using wet-on-wet and dry brush techniques, using criteria in categories such as performance, aesthetics, characteristics, logistics… Each criteria is marked out of 5 and together they make a final mark out of 100.
The brushes got the strongest mark (5 out of 5) in 9 criteria out of 20:
– Super sharp point
– They don’t leave any brush marks when working dry
– The detail work is precise
– They look gorgeous
– They are strong
– They balance well in the hand
– They have excellent spring
– Good size range
– Good value

They got their weakest marks with the following criteria:
– Not super soft
– As a result they are not well suited to the glazing techniques
– The pale grey bristles get stained

Altogether they scored 82%, which is the second best in all the brushes I have tested so far.

You can find the brushes on the Jackson’s website by clicking here.

If you want to see them in action and get more details about my scoring and the Panart 1102 performance, please watch this video:

If you want to skip to the conclusion, you can start watching at around 15 minutes. Please note that the brushes were sent to me by the art distributor but I did not get paid to make the video. It reflects my honest opinion of the brushes.

Happy Painting!
Sandrine
